Safe Families for Children is fueled by compassion to keep vulnerable children safe and families together.
Instead of waiting for bad things to happen to children, we can step in to help. By design, child welfare systems are designed to react AFTER something bad happens to a child. Such interventions can be necessary in cases of abuse and neglect, but we can help BEFORE bad things occur.
Through Host Families, Family Friends, and Family Coaches, we temporarily host children and provide a network of support to families in crisis while they get back on their feet. Families in crisis are able to voluntarily place their children with Safe Families and continue to retain custody during the placement. They can come from any background and be referred by anyone.
We open our hearts, open our arms, and open our homes.
Safe Families volunteers serve without compensation and are motivated by the compassion and grace that they first received from Jesus Christ.

Defend the weak and the fatherless;
uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
Psalm 82:3-4
All throughout the Bible, Old and New Testament alike, God's charge to his people is this: take care of those who are hopeless and helpless. If you want to really touch God's heart, reach out to help a hurting child. James tells us that pure religion is not about going to church and looking good on Sunday, it is about helping broken families in their distress.
In Daystar, we want our heart and mission to always reflect that of Jesus. We hurt with those who are hurting. As a result, we care about families who are hurting. We are partnering with Safe Families Canada because we believe their approach to be very effective.
I'm calling on all of us to join the ranks of volunteers in our church who will make this effort successful. Let's transform our community with the compassion of Christ.
